At BetterBone, we love dogs. We love watching them sprint through parks, splash in rivers, and happily tear into a great chew toy. But as pet parents, we noticed a frustrating contradiction: the products we buy to keep our dogs healthy and happy are often incredibly unhealthy for the planet they love to explore.

Traditional dog chews are made of nylon and petroleum-based plastics. As dogs chew, they create microplastics that pollute our oceans, sit in landfills for centuries, and enter the food chain. We knew there had to be a better way—one that protects both our pups and our planet.

That is why sustainability isn’t a tagline for us; it’s the blueprint of our entire company.

1. Reimagining the Material (Nylon-Free & Plant-Based)

The single biggest impact we can make is changing what goes into your dog's mouth. We spent years moving away from fossil fuels to create a completely innovative, proprietary material blend.

• Renewable Sugarcane: Instead of petroleum, we use renewable, plant-based sugarcane vegetable oils as the foundation of our chews. Sugarcane captures carbon from the atmosphere as it grows, making it an incredibly eco-friendly resource.

• Sustainably Sourced Wood Cellulose: We blend this with responsibly sourced wood cellulose from managed forests. This gives BetterBone its satisfying, bone-like density without relying on synthetic polymers.

• Zero Microplastics: Because our ingredients are 100% natural and plant-derived, any small flakes that break off during heavy chewing sessions naturally biodegrade. They won't harm your dog's digestion, and they won't sit in the environment forever.

2. Conscious Manufacturing & Logistics

A sustainable product doesn’t matter if the process to make it is wasteful. We look at our entire supply chain to find efficiencies and reduce our carbon footprint.

• Lower Carbon Footprint: Manufacturing plant-based materials requires significantly less energy than refining raw petroleum into nylon. By choosing plant matter, we actively lower our manufacturing emissions from day one.

• Waste Reduction: Our production facilities utilize precise injection molding to ensure that manufacturing scrap is kept to an absolute minimum. What little waste is generated is recycled right back into the production cycle.

3. Circular & Minimalist Packaging

We believe a product's journey doesn't end when it arrives at your doorstep. We are committed to eradicating single-use plastics from our shipping and packaging materials.

• Recycled & Recyclable: Our packaging is stripped of unnecessary plastic films, windows, and glosses. We use minimal, high-recycled-content paperboard that can go straight into your backyard recycling bin.

• Soy-Based Inks: To ensure our packaging is as clean as the bone inside, we prioritize non-toxic, soy- and water-based inks that break down safely without releasing harsh chemicals into the soil.
